Nauman is an exceptional instructor! He is very patient and knows exactly what to focus on you as an individual to prepare you for the test. I went to him after a couple of failed driving tests on the recommendation of a friend. My confidence was very low when I came to him and not only did he boost my confidence but also guided me based on my strengths and weaknesses. Finally passed the test all because of him!

What Is an Intensive Driving Course?

An intensive driving course is a block of driving lessons taken over 1–2 weeks instead of several months. You drive most days, so skills build without week-long gaps, and the course ends close to your practical test date.

BNM Driving School’s intensive course is 30 hours of one-to-one lessons over 1–2 weeks, with a mock test included. You learn in a dual-control manual or automatic car with a DVSA approved instructor, on roads around the Mitcham, Morden and Tolworth test centres. A manual pass gives a full Category B licence. An automatic pass covers automatic cars only (code 78).

What Are the Benefits of an Intensive Driving Course?

An intensive driving course gives 5 benefits: test standard in 1–2 weeks, skills that stay fresh, a plan built around your test date, a mock test included and a choice of manual or automatic car.

Test Standard in 1–2 Weeks

30 hours of lessons fit into 1–2 weeks. Weekly lessons usually take 4–6 months to reach the same point, so an intensive course suits learners who are short of time.

Skills That Stay Fresh

Daily lessons leave no week-long gap between sessions. Less time goes on relearning last week's lesson, and more goes on junctions, roundabouts and manoeuvres.

A Plan Built Around Your Test

Your instructor plans the 30 hours to end in the week before your practical test. The last lessons run on roads similar to the Mitcham, Morden or Tolworth test routes.

A Mock Test Included

A full mock test is part of the course price. It runs like the real test and shows exactly which faults to fix in your final lessons.

Manual or Automatic Car

Choose a dual-control manual or automatic car. A manual pass lets you drive both types, while an automatic course skips clutch control. A female instructor is available on request.

Intensive vs Weekly Driving Lessons: Which Should You Choose?

Choose an intensive course if you have passed your theory test, have some driving experience and have a test date booked. Choose weekly lessons if you are starting from zero, feel nervous or have no test date yet. The table compares the two on 6 points.

Intensive courseWeekly lessons
Best forLearners with a theory pass, some experience and a test dateComplete beginners, nervous learners and learners with no test date

Price at BNM£1,125 for 30 hours, mock test included£75 per 2-hour lesson, with savings on 10- and 20-hour blocks

You can also combine the two: take weekly lessons while you wait for a test date, then finish with intensive lessons in the final weeks.

Who Is an Intensive Driving Course For?

An intensive driving course suits 5 types of learner. BNM Driving School runs intensive courses for all five across South and South West London, from Battersea and Wimbledon to Croydon and Sutton.

  • Learners with a test date: your practical test is booked, and you want to arrive with every skill fresh.
  • Students: university or college holidays give 1–2 clear weeks before term starts.
  • Working adults: a week of annual leave replaces months of evening lessons.
  • Learners with experience: previous lessons, private practice or an overseas licence mean 30 hours is enough to reach test standard.
  • Learners with a deadline: a new job, a move or a course that needs a licence by a set date.

When Is an Intensive Course Not the Right Choice?

Returning driver on an automatic refresher lesson with BNM Driving School in Croydon

An intensive course is not the right choice in 4 situations. Weekly lessons, or weekly lessons followed by an intensive finish, suit these learners better:

  • Complete beginners: most beginners need 40–50 hours, so a 30-hour course ends before they reach test standard.
  • Nervous learners: driving most days for 1–2 weeks leaves little time to recover from a difficult lesson.
  • Learners with no test date: skills built in 1–2 weeks fade if the test is months away.
  • Learners on a tight budget: paying for 30 hours at once is harder than spreading lessons over several months.

Not sure which group you are in? A 90-minute intro lesson for £55 gives you an honest answer before you commit.

Which Intensive Driving Options Does BNM Offer?

BNM Driving School offers 6 options for learners who want to pass sooner: the 30-hour intensive course, a £55 intro lesson, 20-hour and 10-hour block bookings, a mock driving test and test car hire. Each lesson is one-to-one in a dual-control car.

What Happens on the First Day of an Intensive Course?

The first day of a BNM intensive course follows 5 steps: a licence and eyesight check, the cockpit drill, an assessment drive, a plan for your 30 hours and your first full lesson. Your instructor picks you up from home, work or college.

  1. Show your licence. Hand over your provisional licence and read a number plate from 20 metres.
  2. Complete the cockpit drill. Check the doors, seat, steering, seatbelt and mirrors.
  3. Take an assessment drive. Your instructor sees what you can already do on quiet roads.
  4. Agree your plan. Your instructor splits the 30 hours across 1–2 weeks around your test date.
  5. Start on your weak spots. Lesson time goes where you need it most, from roundabouts to manoeuvres.

Dual controls let your instructor step in at any moment, so you can build up to busier roads with confidence.
